A modern art exhibition in Pythagorion for the summer of 2016

The Art Space Pythagorion, Samos, announced its exhibition for the summer of 2016, which will be curated by the Greek-born Brussels-based international curator Katerina Gregos.

The title of the exhibition, "A World not Ours", is borrowed from the award-winning homonymous film by the director Mahdi Fleifel.

The exhibition will look into the issue of migration and the refugee crisis and bring together a group of artists who offer reactions, reflections, positions and insights on the subject.

Including practices that range from the activist to the poetic or documentary and new media, these artists shed light onto the crisis that transcends the one-sided and standardised media representations.

They provide a view into the issue that comes from in-depth, long-term research, on the ground engagement, and first hand experience, genuine empathy and sincere motivation rather than political correctness or what Tirdad Zolghadr has been called ‘poornography’.

Many of them come from the middle East or South Eastern Europe or from countries who have experienced war, trauma and exodus first hand.

Samos is just 1.2 km from the coast of Turkey, and in the midst of the refugee crisis at the shores of Greece. Given this fact, it becomes impossible not to react to one of the ongoing humanitarian tragedies of our time.

This is the subject that is present all over Europe and needs long term solutions.

The exhibition will include newly commissioned work by many of the artists. It will open on the 25th of July and run until October 10th, 2016.

The grand opening of the exhibition will take place in August, 4, 2016.
